Dolls Festival [Hinamatsuri ] on 3rd March
Hinamatsuri i.e. Girls/Dolls festival
Hinamatsuri is a special festival celebrated on March 3.
It is a day where families wish their daughters a successful and happy life by displaying ornamental dolls (hina-ningyo) on a set of platforms covered with red carpet in the house.
TheyThe represent the emperor, empress, attendants, and musicians in a traditional court dress of the heian period.
The dolls are said to possess bad spirits, therefore the bad spirits inside their child will be transferred into the doll.
Originally it was an ancient Japanese custom called “Hina-Nagashi” i.e. floating doll.
People used straw to make the hina dolls and were set afloat on a boat and sent down a river to the sea, supposedly taking troubles or bad spirits with them.
